From Holland we drove back to Germany. Shortly after the border you find the small town of Leer. Wonderfully situated the river Leda meets the river Ems in the southern East Frisia. Since we still had some time left, we parked the car and could still walk a little through the city.
We started from the harbour peninsula from where you have a nice view over the water to the old town. Pictures of the city can be found as always in the link above.
Then we drove to the Hoheellern Stadium the home of VfL Germania Leer. They had VfL Oyte as guest today. The duel attracted about 200 spectators. Here everything seemed very relaxed. Drinking beer from the glass bottle directly at the playing field was apparently no problem. Sometimes this is not allowed even on some village pitches.
Directly at the main entrance there is a kiosk which is also open on Sunday and where you can buy food for the game. In the stadium there was also a lot on offer. We decided for coffee and chips and watched the match from the seats of the main grandstand.
You could see the home victory of “Germania” Leer or politically correct: the home success of “appearance of a women, who is supposed to embody the German nation and symbolizes the former German settlement areas” Leer.
After the successful Netherlands-Frisia excursion we returned to Hamburg.

Von Holland fuhren wir zurück nach Deutschland. Kurz hinter der Grenze findet man das kleine verträumte Städtchen Leer. Wunderbar gelegen an der Mündung der Leda in die Ems im südlichen Ostfriesland. Da wir noch etwas Zeiten hatten, stellten wir das Auto ab und konnten noch ein wenig durch die Stadt laufen.
Wir starteten von der Hafenhalbinsel von wo aus man einen schönen Blick über das Wasser zur Altstadt hat. Bilder der Stadt gibt es wie immer oben im Link.
Danach fuhren wir zum Hoheellern-Stadion der Heimat von VfL Germania Leer. Diese hatten heute VfL Oyte zu Gast. Ungefähr 200 Zuschauer zog das Duell an. Hier wirkte alles sehr entspannt. Bier aus der Glaspulle direkt am Spielfeld trinken war scheinbar kein Problem. Darf man teilweise nicht mal mehr auf irgendwelchen Dorfsportplätzen.
Direkt am Haupteingang gibt es einen Kiosk der auch am Sonntag geöffnet hat und bei dem man sich mit Verpflegung für das Spiel eindecken kann. Im Stadion wurde aber auch einiges angeboten. Wir entschieden uns für Kaffee und Pommes und verfolgten das Spiel von den Sitzplätzen der Haupttribüne aus.
Zu sehen gab es den Heimsieg von Germania Leer oder politisch korrekt: den Heimerfolg von Frauengestalt, die die deutsche Nation verkörpern soll und die ehemals deutschen Siedlungsgebiete symbolisiert Leer.
Nach dem erfolgreichen Holland-Ostfriesland-Ausflug ging es mit Volley wieder zurück nach Hamburg.
