One further game I was allowed to visit on the journey. This time I only took the bus and changed once to get to the 20th district of Budapest.

It worked perfectly again. Public transport is extremely good. In addition, you no longer have to pay any additional fees for using Internet on your mobile phone in other European countries. You simply just type in your desired destination on Google and it shows you immediately different possibilities to reach your destination from your current position. It couldn’t be simpler.

After a few minutes walk I reached the stadium in the very rural suburb. The Stadium of ESMTK is just a stunning beauty. It has an old main tribune painted in club coulors with terraces next to it. On the other side they also have built a new roof. They even tried to make the roof match the grandstand and I think they did it well. I definitely recommend a visit here.

Here I met Tim again and we watched the game together. We saw a fierce duel. There were many fouls and therefore many match interruptions. Shortly before the end, ESMTK scored the equaliser and the home crowd could still cheer.

After the game I said goodbye to Tim again and drove back to the hotel.

On Monday Sektion Indonesia an me spent the whole day in Palatinus Strandfürdő an outdoor swimming pool on Margaret Island in the middle of the Danube. It was also St. Stephen’s Day a Hungarian national holiday and in the evening we enjoyed the big fireworks on the Margaret Bridge together with a few drinks and thousands of people on the streets, bridges and at the edge of the Danube. A beautiful conclusion to our Budpest holiday.

For me Budapest is one of the best cities in Europe. The city beautiful, clean and safe. There is so much to see and experience. The location on the Danube alone offers many wonderful views. There are also many good photographic motifs such as the Old Town, the Fisherman’s Bastion high over town, large avenues, squares and parks and countless historical buildings. Public transport is very well organised and easy to use. English is widely spoken. Everything is very visitor friendly. It is also comparatively cheap, especially for Western Europeans. For football fans there are many interesting stadiums and fan scenes to visit. Here you will find new modern arenas and beautiful old East European stadiums. Budapest I can recommend without reservation!

2018/08/18 – Budapest Honvéd FC vs Videoton FC

A few minutes before kick off there were long queues at the ticket counter. I walked around the stadium and found an almost empty counter. There I only had to show my identity card and got my ticket with my name printed on it. So I could enter the stadium just in time.

Unfortunately Honved does not play in its beautiful old stadium, but evades into the newly built Hidegkuti Nándor Stadion Stadium. The stadium is actually the home of MTK Budapest. Today I had the special luck that Honvéd played here for the first time and so I missed the old stadium.

For a newly built stadium, however, is quite okay. It doesn’t win a beauty prize but there are clearly uglier new stadiums. It is considerably smaller than the old Hidegkuti Nándor Stadiun, but is completely sufficient for the club.

The guests came from Székesfehérvár the winner of last year’s championship. They brought only about 80 guest fans who were accommodated on the same side as the home fans.

At Videoton FC someone had the great idea to change the old traditional name to MOL Vidi FC (a hungarian Oil and Gas Company). One of the reasons why parts of the active fanscene boycott the matches at the moment. What a pity, as this club has very good, loud and loyal fans. So the athmosphere today was actually just from the Honvéd fans.

Videoton won the game with 3 goals and the victory wasn’t really endangered. At the latest from the second half on they clearly were the better Team.

After the match I took the tram right in front of the Stadium and went back to the hotel.

Today we only strolled around the Great Market Hall (Nagyvásárcsarnok) and had lunch there. As it was very warm again we soon went back to our Hotel where we spent some time at the pool before the football day with two matches on the list started.

In the afternoon I went with the well organised public transport to Csepel the 21st district in the south of the capital. The only district that is neither on the Buda side nor on the Pest side of town. I took the bus to Boráros tér Bus station and than changed to the Csepel HÉV a kind of suburban train to the last stop Csepel station. From there its only a short walk to the Béke téri Stadium.

Another unusual but beautiful stadium. Again huge floodlights, old and partly overgrown terraces, an analog scoreboard and unique main stand I have never seen before in this form. That’s the kind of stadium you want to visit in Eastern Europe.

This time there were recognizable home fans and a few away supporters found their way into the stadium. The Csepel fans stood in the hot sun on the roofles long side and the Érdi fans in the shadow of the grandstand. About 250 people saw a 2:2 draw on that super hot day.

For the next match I had to go to the Hidegkuti Nándor Stadium. I had less than 45 Minutes to do it and unfortunately it was not doable with the public transport. So I had to jump into a Taxi that took me there. Just in time …

A short Summer holiday trip brought Sektion Indonesia and me to the beautiful Capital of Hungary. We arrived in Budapest via direct flight from Hamburg on thursday afternoon.

We checked into the hotel and have already had the opportunity to take a look around the city. So we went to Fisherman’s Bastion (Halászbástya) on the Buda bank of the river Danube (Donau) with a marvelous view over town. It was very hot outside, so we spent the rest of the evening at the Hotel Pool.

On Friday we continued sightseeing and went to the city centre and visited the St. Stephen’s Basilica. Later we took the historical Metro Line 1 (Millenniumi Földalatti Vasút) to the Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere) and the Vajdahunyad Castle behind it. Today was also Indonesia’s Independence Day. So we visited the Indonesian Embassy near the Heroes’ Square. There was traditional music and dances and of course delicious indonesian food.

Football is part of such a journey of course and #FloodlightFriday was a good opportunity to visit the uncommon BVSC Stadium. It has a weird main stand, old terraces on the other side and huge oldschool floodlights. In the past there used to be stands behind the one goal and a large score board but unfortunately these were removed. Nevertheless the stadium is still amazing.

On my way to the stadium I met Tim, a teacher from England and proud BVSC fan who now lives in Budapest. We had a lovely conversation during the match about football and groundhopping. Tim has also travelled extensively and has lived in various countries such as Japan and Malaysia. Therefore he could report many interesting experiences from these countries.

After telling him my further plans for the weekend he was amazed by the stadium that I wanted to visit on Sunday. He did not known that such a beautiful stadium is existing in Budapest so we made an appointment for that day.

BVSC won the game by the way and had a good start into the new season. Unfortunately, only about 80 spectators were interested in the game. Although the entrance was free and you did not need such useless crap like a fancard. Too bad, this club deserves more visitors. Hopefully they will rise and reach more spectators. The stadium for more people they have anyhow.
