Report:
The son of my cousin is in Swansea for an exchange year so it was clear that I had to visit him in Wales.
After we agreed for a date and a place I booked the flights from Hamburg via Amsterdam to Cardiff, where we wanted to spend the weekend.
We met at the central station of Cardiff and then went to our Hotel where we put down our luggage. It was very central accommodation on the river Taff with view on the National Stadium of Wales the Millennium Stadium. From there we started our first sightseeing tour.
We took the water bus to the newly designed Cardiff Bay. In that area you can find for example the beautiful Pierhead Building, the futuristic Welsh National Opera, the Senedd – the National Assembly for Wales and the nice little norwegian church. In the church we allowed us a coffee and tasty welsh cookies at tea time.
Then we continued our tour by foot to the city center and walked through the nice pedastrian streets and the lovely indoor shopping arcades in the “City of Arcades”.
Football was on the agenda too of course and in the evening we decided to go to Taff’s Well a small town in the urban area Cardiff only a 20 minute ride by train from the central station. Todays match was the “Wellmen” vs the “Cuckoo’s”.
Despite of the stormy and rainy weather the match was going to take place. We got a very warm welcome from Norma and other officials of Taff’s Well AFC and also met Stuart from Risca United. I even got an old Taff’s Well season ticket as gift. That was very nice because they don’t have match tickets.
The football was as expected. Not the highest quality but with a lot of fighting and effort. We saw a lot of goals and good action on the pitch. So it was a great match that we really enjoyed!
After the match we went back to Cardiff to our warm and dry Hotel.
